Tror aldrig jag har känt mig så osäker och säker på samma gång. Under mina tre hemtentor den senaste månaden har jag känt mig otroligt otillräcklig. I den berömda pyramiden skulle vi nå synopsis. Hur skulle jag någonsin sätta en tenta när mina resonemang avvek diametralt från mina kursares politiskt korrekta och vältränade monologer. Någonstans där gav jag upp.

När jag idag såg mitt betyg på krigstentan blev jag chockad. När jag sen läste min inledning blev jag alldeles varm. Even though war is considered a failure, there is also some truth in war being a catalyst for rapid social development. Without war research and war industry, we would not have had satellites, airplanes, Navstar GPS or even cellphones. Mind me, we would not have had nylon stockings or hairspray either.

At the same time, war is one of the most horrifying inventions of humankind. In the midst of action, hatred and violence, there is naturally a strong urge for revenge. And just within the heat, when the commander in chief orders for no quarter and a fight till the bitter end, there is a need for regulations. At that point, the commanders and the soldiers need to be reminded of the fact, that one day they do have to live side by side with their enemy again. Only mercy and reconciliation will make that possible.
